“As a kid I always wanted to play at the highest level” – Jerry Mawihmingthanga

Our young gun Jerry Mawihmingthanga was part of one of the most historic moments of the club as he went on to score Jamshedpur FC’s first ever goal. While it was only a pre-season friendly, it was of great significance as we got off the mark in our first match itself. We sat down with the youngster to chat about a few things. Here’s how the conversation went:

On being Jamshedpur FC’s first goalscorer…
It's a great great moment for me. It's really amazing to have done that. It’s very difficult to express it in words.

On his career aspirations…
Since I was a kid I always wanted to play at the highest level. I even dream of playing in Europe and our national team someday if possible. While I am not in a rush to play for the national team, I will keep working hard on the pitch. And whenever I get my chance, I will give my level best!

On which player he idolizes…
I look upto Luis Suarez. I enjoy watching him play. I’ve been following him since his Liverpool days.

On the pre-season preparation in Thailand…
The Thailand tour has been beneficial. We are doing good as a team. Most importantly we are really enjoying together. We have great team spirit.

On who kept his name ‘Jerry’…
(Laughs) I used to love this cartoon Tom and Jerry as a child and my brother used to observe me enjoy the cartoon. Hence, he gave me that name.
