#CFCJFC Match Preview: Gametime with Chennaiyin FC
Jamshedpur suffered yet another blow after losing an intense game against SC East Bengal in their previous fixture. The Men of Steel were determined to get a consecutive victory after defeating Odisha FC; they stepped up at the Fatorda stadium to face SC East Bengal. Unfortunately, they were unable to seal a win as SC East Bengal held a strong backline and denied multiple chances to score while netting 2 goals for themselves. Jamshedpur were close to equalising the score after netting in a late goal, but they ran out of time.
After the disheartening outcome, Jamshedpur will now move on to face their next challenge in the final phase of the league. They will be going head-to-head with the runner-ups of last season, Chennaiyin FC, for the second time this season.
The last time the two teams shared the pitch was back in the first week of November 2020 as both teams played their first game of the season against each other. The fixture was scheduled at the Tilak Maidan stadium with both teams aiming for the win in the first game to establish a high position in the league table.
The game turned competitive right at the beginning as the Chennai’s midfielder, Anirudh Thapa, did not miss out on his chance to net his first goal of the season for his team with a stunning finish, which ended in the back of the net in the very first minute of the game. Thapa took the visitors to an early lead in the game and thus put more pressure on Jamshedpur. Chennai came with another goal from the penalty spot as Esmael Goncalves netted the penalty after Isaac’s foul inside the box. Despite being 2-0 down, the Men of Steel showed great fighting spirit and scored a goal which got them back into the game. Former Jamshedpur midfielder, Jackichand Singh, lobbed the ball to Valskis who put the ball in the back of the net with an accurate header, against his former club. The remainder of the game saw multiple chances and attempts at goal and the intensity of the game kept increasing, but none of those opportunities were converted into goals as the game came to an end with the score being 2-1. Both teams walked out of Tilak Maidan after giving a tough fight to each other but Chennaiyin managed to grab the 3 points and Jamshedpur suffered its first loss of the season.
Fast forward to February, Jamshedpur is currently positioned at #7, just above the opposition, Chennaiyin FC who are at #8 with a difference of just one point. Both sides will be looking to take the edge over the other and climb up the table.
Both sides have some of the youngest talents as well as experienced players in their arsenal like Anirudh Thapa, Esmael Goncalves, Memo Moura (Chennaiyin FC) and Peter Hartley, Stephen Eze, Nick Fitzgerald, Mobashir Rahman (Jamshedpur FC) and many more who will be ready to deliver another action-packed contest of football when they share the pitch tonight.
While Jamshedpur still have a slim chance of qualifying for the play-offs, they will be giving their best to grab as many points as possible to reach the top 4 spots. On the other hand, Chennaiyin FC will be aiming to finish the season strong and register another win over the Men of Steel and position themselves higher up the table before closing the 2020-21 season of ISL. Jamshedpur head coach, Owen Coyle will once again be facing his former club who he managed to take to the finals of the league, last season, and hopes to walk away with the needed 3 points for Jamshedpur this season.
