FIRST INTERVIEW – ELI SABIA: “Jamshedpur has some great Indian players”

Jamshedpur FC signed experienced central defender Eli Sabia recently. The Brazilian took questions posed by the press. Excerpts from his conversation with the Jamshedpur FC media team below:

Hi Eli, your first thoughts on signing for Jamshedpur FC…

I am very happy and excited about the opportunity to join this great club. I hope to represent in the best possible way.  I see Jamshedpur as a club and a city with big ambition. I want to give my best for the team and the fans who are so passionate about the team. I want to compete to win each match and battle to get the top honours for the club and the fans

You have played in the ISL for many years now. How will that benefit Jamshedpur?

For me it was a great learning experience all these years, it's a competitive league that grows with each season. And considering I have played for so many years, I hope my experience rubs on positively on everyone playing with me. I hope together with my new teammates, that we fight so that we are always playing at the top of the table.

You have played in Jamshedpur in front of packed crowds. What do you think of the fans?

It was always very difficult to play against Jamshedpur FC, the fans supporting all the time, cheering and encouraging every moment. The stadium is one of the loudest I have come across. I know we are far away, but the love and affection of the fans can be felt so well. Reading all the welcome messages on social media was such a lovely thing to see. Let's all play and fight for our club and our passionate fans.

Jamshedpur has some young and hungry Indian defenders like Dinliana, Dinpuia and Narender. Who are you looking to play with the most?

I have no doubt that there are great Indian players. I played together with Dilliana, and I look forward to meeting and playing with everyone. Together we will make a big family.

How influential was Owen Coyle for your move to Jamshedpur?

Yes, my relationship is good with Owen Coyle, I have great admiration for him. There was interest from both parties, and I am very happy to be working with him again. Thanks to Jamshedpur FC for welcoming me and trusting me in my work.

Message to the fans…

The fans have been so amazing despite not having contact with fans due to the pandemic. In the Jamshedpur games last season, I used to see the fans of the club cheering so passionately on the Fan Wall screens set up by the league. I want to thank everyone for their messages of support and affection and say that I will do my best on and off the field, so that Jamshedpur FC can grow even more.
