From teammates to rivals - Bikash Jairu talks about going head to head with Jerry Mawia for the first time

From teammates to rivals, Bikash Jairu and Jerry Mawia have come a long way since their Jamshedpur FC days. In this candid tête-à-tête, Bikash speaks ahead of the clash vs Odisha FC, and going head to head with Jerry for the first time. Here are the excerpts below.

On the experience with Jerry as a teammate for the first two seasons

It has always been amazing, both on and off the field. We have always been good friends, in fact, he’s been like a brother to me. We have always had fun, made merry, even during matches and practice sessions, our partnership has always been one of my favourite memories.

On playing as opponents for the first time

I am really looking forward to it.

The great thing about this season is us playing against each other for the very reason that we both know each other's games. So, I am excited to see how that plays out. He puts up a good challenge and for me, that’s the most thrilling part.

Obviously, no matter what happens on the field i.e. how we face each other or the match results, our bond off the field will always be the same and we will always be great friends.

Any message for Jerry

I want to wish him all the best for his new venture with Odisha FC. I hope he plays fantastically this season just as I know he will. I am looking forward to a season of challenges and great matches as we go up against each other. Just one message for him. “You’ve been with us for two years, you know what you are up against. Taiyaar Rehna!”
