India’s Longest and Largest Blue Cubs League Returns as Jamshedpur Super League Kicks Off Sunday at JRD Tata Sports Complex
Jamshedpur, November 15: India’s biggest grassroots football movement, the Jamshedpur Super League, will return in an expanded form this Sunday at the JRD Tata Sports Complex Artificial Football Turf. The tournament, rebranded by Jamshedpur FC from the All India Football Federation’s Blue Cubs League framework, continues to serve as a powerful platform for young footballers through small-sided, age-appropriate formats designed to maximise touches, enjoyment, and learning.
Blue Cubs League is AIFF’s national grassroots model that promotes inclusive participation, and Jamshedpur FC has taken the initiative a step further by shaping it into a six-month-long festival of football. The unique aspect of the Jamshedpur Super League is its community-driven ecosystem, where not just children but mothers, fathers, coaches, girls, veterans, and even transgender players get the opportunity to play the game.
Last year, the league turned into a landmark success with 628 participants competing across five categories — Under-5, Under-7, Under-9, Under-11, and Under-13. The edition began on October 18, 2024 and was conducted across three venues: Archery Ground, Tinplate Sports Complex, and the JRD Tata Sports Complex Football Turf. A total of 70 teams took part, including 33 from grassroots schools and 37 from academies and clubs. Across the competition, 68 matches were played in the U-5 category, 153 in U-7, 45 in U-9, 91 in U-11, and 120 in U-13.
This year, the Jamshedpur Super League is set for its biggest expansion yet. The number of teams will leap from 70 to 190, involving 1,187 grassroots players along with 888 participants across community groups. The league’s scaled-up format reflects both the growing popularity of football in the region and Jamshedpur FC’s commitment to building a vibrant sporting culture.
Kundan Chandra, Head of Grassroots and Youth Development at Jamshedpur FC, said, “The Jamshedpur Super League is not just a tournament; it is a movement that brings the entire community together. Our goal is to give every child and every football lover a chance to step onto the field, learn, grow, and feel included. This expansion shows how deeply the sport is rooted in Jamshedpur, and we are excited to see even more families, coaches, School teachers, grandparents, and children come together this season.”
