Jamshedpur FC grab a late 1 - 0 win over Mumbai City FC

What's football without some late twists and turns? Jamshedpur FC were 10 minutes away from another draw and making it extremely difficult for themselves to have a chance of making it into the playoffs. And then arrived Memo Moura! Jamshedpur's adopted Brazilian scored with a looping header in the 80th minute to earn his side a slender 1 - 0 win over Mumbai City FC.

Jamshedpur FC needed a win in this game at all costs to be in the race for the top four spots. Battling with injuries, Cesar Ferrando named his best possible starting eleven with Pablo Morgado being stationed as the sole striker and Pratik Chaudhari partnering Tiri in the heart of the defence.

Mumbai City's game plan was to absorb the home side's pressure and look to hit them on the counter. The Islanders were defending with numbers without the ball and making life difficult for the opponents to get behind them. The first half saw a cagey affair at the Furnace with chances bring created scarcely.

Jamshedpur FC's only meaningful attack in the first-half came in the 23rd minute when Farukh Choudhary's shot from outside the box went straight into the hands of Amrinder Singh. A huge performance was needed from the Men in Red in the second half if they needed to change the narrative.

Ferrando introduced Sumeet Passi after the hour mark and after his introduction, the home side upped their ante. Passes were being made quicker than before and an intent was evident from them to bag that elusive goal. But a strong Mumbai defensive unit were keeping them at bay.

Until the 80th minute. Sergio Cidoncha delivered a ball into the box from a set-piece. Amrinder Singh rushed from his line to parry it away. His clearance could only find Memo who timed his header with perfection to nab the winner. Delirium ensued at the Furnace for a goal that proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Playing without three of their key attacking players, Jamshedpur FC showed heart and desire in equal measures to get the better of a well-drilled Mumbai City FC side. Ferrando's men will be back in action next Saturday when they welcome FC Pune City to the Furnace.
