Jamshedpur FC register a fine 2 - 0 win over Mumbai City FC
Jamshedpur FC put Mumbai City FC to sword with a fine 2 - 0 victory at the Mumbai Sports Arena. It was a convincing performance from Cesar Ferrando's men as goals from Mario Arques and Pablo Morgado confirmed all three points for Jamshedpur FC in their opening encounter.
The first half saw both sides create chances but it was Jamshedpur FC that were looking like the side with better composure in the final third. Mumbai City FC defended brilliantly at times in the first half as Jerry Mawia and Mario Arques troubled the opposition with their pace and precision.
The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute when Mario Arques headed home a cross from Carlos Calvo to score Jamshedpur FC's first goal of the 2018/19 season. Jamshedpur FC went into the break with a one goal advantage and were the better side until then.
The second half saw a resurgent Mumbai City side turn up and Jorge Costa's men tested Jamshedpur FC's defence on numerous occasions. Tiri was sensational at the centre-back position for Jamshedpur FC while Subhashish Roy Chowdhury was equally brilliant between the posts. The Jamshedpur FC custodian made a number of important saves in the match.
Mumbai City were knocking on Jamshedpur's doors but the team from Jharkand held on to their advantage, amidst intense pressure. The home side did score two goals in the second half, both of which were flagged offside.
On a counter-attacking move, second-half substitute, Pablo Morgado then doubled Jamshedpur FC's lead with a calm finish past Mumbai City's Amrinder Singh in the 95th minute of the game.
Jamshedpur FC showed prowess on the ball in the first half and then showed resilience in the second to guarantee all three points against Mumbai City FC and kick-start their Indian Super League 2018/19 journey in the best possible way.
