Jamshedpur FC Sign Experienced Goalkeeper and Former TFA Graduate Ravi Kumar Ahead of New Season
Jamshedpur FC have secured the signing of experienced Indian goalkeeper Ravi Kumar, with the move marking a special return to familiar surroundings for the shot-stopper.
Ravi Kumar is no stranger to Jamshedpur. He was part of the Tata Football Academy (TFA) setup and graduated alongside India international Pronay Halder, taking his first major steps in professional football from the Steel City. His return now, years later and after establishing himself in the Indian Super League, adds an emotional layer to the move.
Ravi began his senior career with the AIFF XI (then Pailan Arrows), making his I-League debut in February 2012 and announcing himself with a clean sheet against Salgaocar. He went on to represent Sporting Goa, Delhi Dynamos, NorthEast United FC, Mumbai City FC, Odisha FC and Punjab FC, building a reputation as a dependable goalkeeper across competitions. Over the last two ISL seasons with Punjab FC, Ravi was a regular starter, making 31 appearances and keeping five clean sheets.
At the international level, Ravi has also represented India at the U-19 stage, making his debut during the AFC U-19 Championship qualifiers in 2012.
Speaking after completing the move, Ravi Kumar described the transfer as a deeply personal moment. “Coming back to Jamshedpur feels like a homecoming for me. I spent an important phase of my life at TFA, and this city played a huge role in shaping me as a footballer and as a person. To return now as a Jamshedpur FC player is very special, and I’m proud to be back. I’m looking forward to working hard and contributing to the team in every way I can.”
Jamshedpur FC’s Head Coach Owen Coyle expressed his satisfaction at adding Ravi to the squad, saying, “Delighted to bring Ravi Kumar on board. He’s been a very good keeper in the league, as you know, and we’re delighted to add him to the quality of goalkeepers we have. It provides real competition in the squad, and that’s exactly what we want competition in every position. Ravi certainly provides that, competing with Albino and the other goalkeepers for the number one spot. It’s great competition to have, with quality goalkeepers.”
Ravi Kumar now returns to the club and city that shaped his early career, ready to begin a new chapter with Jamshedpur FC ahead of the upcoming season.
