Javi: “Hyderabad are a dangerous side, but we’re confident of going through”
Jamshedpur, April 19: Ahead of their crucial Round of 16 clash against Hyderabad FC in the 2025 Kalinga Super Cup, Jamshedpur FC’s Spanish midfielder Javi Hernández has warned that their opponents are not to be taken lightly. Despite Hyderabad’s struggles early in the season, the midfielder believes they’ve turned things around and will pose a serious threat in the knockout fixture.
“Hyderabad FC struggled at the beginning of the season, but after the first month, they started playing much better and getting stronger results,” Javi said. “They beat us the last time we faced them, and even at home, we had to fight hard to win. They’ve shown that they are a dangerous team, and knockout games make it even more equal and unpredictable.”
Jamshedpur FC had an eventful Indian Super League season, exceeding expectations by reaching the semi-finals and coming within touching distance of the final. The team suffered a heartbreaking last-minute defeat against Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the second leg. Despite the disappointment, Javi praised the campaign.
“I think overall, we had an amazing season. We were much better than anyone expected. To lose out in the very last minute against the best team in the league that hurt. But it also showed how strong we’ve become,” he reflected.
The Spaniard added that the players have returned from the short break hungry and motivated. “After the semis, we took some time to recharge. Now everyone is back, training hard and with the right mindset. We are fully focused on the Super Cup and want to finish this season on a high.”
Javi also underlined the team’s intent to win the tournament. “Our mindset is clear: we want to win all our games and bring the Super Cup home to Jamshedpur. We are confident in our group, and we know what we’re capable of.”
Jamshedpur FC will take on Hyderabad FC in the Round of 16 on April 24. With both teams familiar with each other and a place in the quarter-finals at stake, it promises to be a tightly contested affair
