#JFCMCFC Match Preview: Battle-ready against the resilient Islanders
Jamshedpur FC made their way back into the top 4 spots in the league table after defeating Kerala Blasters 3-0, collecting all the winning points and a clean sheet to move up to in the league table with just a difference of 1 point from the top spot (with one match in hand).
With the squad being back wearing their winning boots, they move forward in the season for their next tough challenge, the defending champions, Mumbai City FC.
In their last meeting which took place in the first half of the 2021-22 season of the Hero ISL, the Islanders took complete control of the first half as they slipped in 3 goals in the first 20 minutes of the game and ended the first half with a strong lead and dominance in performance. Despite being down by 3 goals, the Men of Steel did not back down and showed grit, passion and strength to come back in the game with 2 goals within 10 minutes of the second 45 minutes.
The Jamshedpur side almost equalized the score but the Mumbai City squad slotted in another goal making it 4 for them which extended their lead and held back the Men of Steel from taking something from the game leading to their first loss of the season.
After their last encounter, the campaign has gone in different directions for both sides as Mumbai City FC’s form took a beating; they were not able to win any of the games in their next 7 fixtures which led them down the league table. Meanwhile, Jamshedpur FC went on to continue grabbing points from every game they played with just 1 loss thus maintaining their spot in the top 4 positions of the league table. But Mumbai is picking up the pace and the Gaffer is well aware of whom they are going to go up against tonight. "In terms of mentality, Mumbai City FC have a very strong one. Even in their difficult period of time, they were still picking up draws here and there and even in their narrow games that they lost, they could have easily been won by them. So the margins were very fine, and Mumbai might have made some errors but whatever it was, they have corrected it and are looking very strong as a team now, as we do too. They have wonderful players whom we have to be respectful of."
Currently, both squads are on par with equal points (25 points) and Jamshedpur stands one position higher than Mumbai City FC with one extra match in hand and a higher goal difference. The main aim for both teams tonight will be to grab the 3 crucial points to take advantage over the other and move higher up the table to stay in contention for the playoffs positions.
With additions of firepower into their attacking squad in the mid season transfer window, both sides will look to be a constant attacking threat to each other, looking to score as many goals as possible to grab the upper hand at the Athletic Stadium.
