#JFCNEUFC Match Preview: A crucial fixture against the Highlanders

The Men of Steel walked out with an unfortunate result in their first game of the new year as they lost to Chennaiyin FC with a margin of one goal to none. The team fought hard and were clearly the dominant side, but they were unable to convert their chances into goals which led to the Marina Machans taking all 3 points with a goal and a strong defensive display.

After the tough beginning to the year, the Men of Steel now set their sights on their next fixture in which they will be going toe-to-toe with NorthEast United FC tonight. The two sides will be going against each other for the 9th time in the Hero ISL to end the first half of their 2021-22 campaign.

In the previous season, the teams shared two fixtures and both teams managed to grab a win each in the two games they played against each other. The first game ended in Jamshedpur’s favour as they registered a win by keeping a clean sheet with TP Rehenesh making a brilliant penalty save and with a goal to separate the two sides, thus walking out victorious with the 3 points. In the second half of the season, NorthEast United won the intense fixture between the two as they scored 2 early goals to keep them in lead while the Men of Steel kept pushing to get back in the game but could only manage to net in a goal for their side, thus ending the tight encounter with a full-time score of 2-1.

The two teams have had a mixture of results in their campaign so far including some crucial wins, convincing draws and tough losses but the two sides have created some memorable moments in the league in their games and will aim to continue to do the same in the coming half of the 2021-22 season.

Currently, NorthEast United FC are placed 10th in the league table while on the other hand, Jamshedpur FC climbed down to the 6th position after their loss in the previous game against Chennaiyin FC. After dropping points in their previous fixture, both sides will aim to climb up the table. "NorthEast United FC are a very tough opponent. They have come out of 2 tough games and have shown that they can go toe-to-toe with some really good teams in the league. They have always had some young exciting players and we know it is going to be a tough game which we are looking forward to. But equally, we know when we are at our very best, then we can win games and that is what we’ll aim to do,” said Owen Coyle ahead of the game in the pre-match press conference.

The two sides will aim to put their best foot forward with the goal of closing their first half of their 2021-22 campaign on a positive note when they step up to the pitch tonight. Harbouring some of the most skilled attacking midfielders and forwards in the league alongside some really compact and tight defensive line-ups, the game will be a nail-biting fixture filled, waiting to be witnessed throughout the 90 minutes of the match.
