Kohlan star Samir Murmu signs contract extension with Jamshedpur FC
Jamshedpur, October 12: Jamshedpur FC have announced that Samir Murmu, the Kolhan-born midfielder and Santosh Trophy winner, has extended his contract with the club, after his debut season with Jamshedpur FC last season.
The 24-year-old from Bhagaband village near Ghatsila rose to prominence with his standout performances in the 2023–24 Santosh Trophy, where he was named Player of the Tournament after scoring 10 goals in 13 matches for Jharkhand. His journey from local football circuits to the Indian Super League side has been one of determination and quiet perseverance.
Speaking on his extension, Samir said, “Playing for Jamshedpur FC is a dream I’m living every day. This club represents my home, and I feel proud every time I wear the jersey. My aim is to work harder, improve with every training session, and make the people of Jharkhand proud. The fans here are passionate, and I want to give them more moments to celebrate.”
Murmu joined Jamshedpur FC in 2024 after his Santosh Trophy heroics and made his senior debut in the ISL last season. Known for his speed, pressing, and versatility, he can operate both as an attacking midfielder and a winger. His development under the club’s system reflects Jamshedpur’s commitment to nurturing young players from the region.
Head Coach Steven Dias praised the youngster’s progress, saying, “Samir is a bright prospect with great energy and attitude. He listens, learns quickly, and gives his best in every session. It’s important for us to have players like him, local talents who understand the club’s values and connect with the fans. We see a lot of potential in Samir, and this extension is part of our plan to help him grow into a key player for the future.”
The Men of Steel will open their campaign against FC Goa on October 26, followed by matches against North East United FC on October 29 and Inter Kashi on November 1 in the Group B fixtures to be played at Goa.
