Match Preview – Jamshedpur FC lock horns with FC Goa in the Hero Super Cup quarter-finals

Jamshedpur FC will have their task cut out in the Hero Super Cup quarter-finals as they face FC Goa at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

The Gaurs come on the back of a resounding win over ATK in the previous round as they thumbed their Indian Super League (ISL) rivals 3-1. Jamshedpur FC on the other hand trumped Minerva Punjab FC on penalties after a highly intense match to get past the pre-quarterfinal stage of the tournament.

The last time the two sides met, it was a battle to qualify for the ISL 2017-18 semi-finals. The Goans proved too hot for the Jharkhand based side in a match marred by the early sending-off of ISL 2017-18 Golden Glove holder, Subrata Paul.

At the press meet, Jamshedpur FC Head Coach didn’t make much of the past results with the opposition. He said, “FC Goa triumphed twice when we played them in the ISL. So, it’s an opportunity for us to win the game.

“It’s nothing to do with revenge really. Our motivation is to qualify for the semi-finals as we would like to go far and maybe even win the tournament.”

FC Goa Head Coach Derrick Pereira credited his side’s team effort for their successes this season as he said, “The important part for tomorrow is to work as a team, which we already are, and play our best football possible to progress to the semi-finals.”

The winner of this match will face Khalid Jamil’s Kingfisher East Bengal in the semi-finals of the tournament, who beat Aizawl 1-0 courtesy a last-minute penalty.
