Match Report: Jamshedpur FC’s winning run jolted by FC Pune City

FC Pune City came back from one goal down to register a league double over us in the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) season at the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Wednesday.

The first quarter of the game was mostly dominated around the midfield area, with both the sides battling for ball possession. But in the 29th minute, we witnessed some individual brilliance from our Brazilian midfielder Wellington Priori as he slotted the ball into goal to give us the lead.

Wellington Priori made most of a mistake from FC Pune City’s goalkeeper Vishal Kaith as he put the ball in the back of the net with the outside of his right foot.

The surge continued as Izu Azuka and Trindade Goncalves were combining down the right flank brilliantly, but we failed to convert from those chances.

In the 45th minute of the game, Emiliano Alfaro came up with the miss of the season as could not put the ball past our super defender Yumnam Raju Mangang, who made a goal-saving block yet again, like he did against Kerala Blasters and Delhi Dynamos.

But things did not go as we expected in the second half of the game. FC Pune City scored two goals in the span of five minutes to take the lead in the game. Our boys did not give up in front of those relentless attacks from the opponent.

Steve Coppell made a few changes to turn things around as we saw Sameehg Doutie, Kervens Belfort and Ashim Biswas coming into the field in the second half, but they could not make the desired impact.

Azuka came agonizingly close to scoring in added time but the FC Pune City defenders came to the rescue.

Up next, we will travel to Kolkata to take on ATK on 28th Jan. That match will be followed by yet another away game against Mumbai City FC on 1st Feb.
