Men of Steel target strong response after first setback of the season

Delhi, March 18: Jamshedpur FC will look to quickly put their first defeat of the season behind them when they face Sporting Delhi FC in another away fixture on March 19th, aiming to regain momentum in the title race.

The Men of Steel currently sit second on the table with just a point separating them from leaders Mohun Bagan Super Giant, making this encounter a crucial opportunity to bounce back before their much-
anticipated clash against Mohun Bagan SG.

The setback came in their previous outing against NorthEast United FC, where Jamshedpur produced a spirited display but were undone by a couple of avoidable goals.

Despite creating several scoring opportunities and showing strong character, especially in difficult phases of the match, the team could not convert their dominance into points. The loss has underlined the need for greater clinical finishing in the final third, an area Head Coach Owen Coyle has acknowledged as a key focus ahead of the Delhi trip.

“Any disappointing result demands a quick response. We created enough chances in the last game and did not deserve to lose, but we must be more clinical,” Coyle said, stressing the importance of regrouping amid a tight travel schedule. He also highlighted the collective spirit within the squad, adding that the players remain determined to return to winning ways and build a strong first half of the campaign.

Winger Sanan Mohammed echoed his coach’s optimism, pointing out that sustained hard work in training will translate into goals and assists. “We are creating opportunities regularly. If we keep focusing on improving our final-third play and maintain belief, the results will come,” he said.

Jamshedpur will, however, have to cope with a few absentees heading into the match. As confirmed in the pre-match press conference, winger Vincy Barretto remains suspended after his recent red card, while playmaker Madih Talal is still sidelined with an injury. Their absence could prompt minor adjustments, though Coyle expressed confidence in the depth of his squad and the ability of other players to step up in crucial moments.

While Jamshedpur aim to rediscover their rhythm, Sporting Delhi enter the contest under pressure. They are placed second from bottom with just one point from four matches so far. However, the hosts have shown glimpses of resilience in patches this season, meaning the visitors will have to be at their best, particularly away from home where matches often prove demanding.

The match will be live on FanCode and Sony Sports Network from 7.30 PM onward on March 19th .
