Serbian Defender Lazar Cirkovic Extend Contract with Jamshedpur
Jamshedpur, September 30: Jamshedpur FC have confirmed that Serbian defender Lazar Cirkovic has extended his stay with the club for season 2025-26, strengthening the Men of Steel’s backline ahead of the upcoming Super Cup.
Cirkovic, who joined the club last year, played a pivotal role in the team’s campaign in the Indian Super League, helping the club to reach the semifinal. His imposing presence and experience were key in bringing solidity to the squad and he was especially influential during the Super Cup, in which Jamshedpur reached the final.
Cirkovic's impressive resume includes a vital role in Chennaiyin FC's qualification for the play-offs, making 19 appearances in total. He has also won the Serbian First Division and Serbian Cup twice with FK Partizan Belgrade from 2014-17, including a double in the 16-17 season. He has experience in the UEFA Europa League and Champions League qualifiers, apart from representing Serbia at youth international levels.
The 33-year-old center-back joins fellow foreigners Stephen Eze and Rei Tachikawa in the squad, giving head coach Steven Dias a strong blend of defensive power and midfield balance.
“It feels great to continue my journey with Jamshedpur FC. The support from the fans and the trust from the club means a lot to me. Last season gave me a lot of confidence, and I want to build on that to help the team achieve even more success. We have a strong squad, and I am excited to give my best and fight for trophies with the Men of Steel,” said Lazar Cirkovic on his contract extension.
Speaking on Cirkovic’s renewal, head coach Steven Dias said, “Lazar was one of our most reliable players last season, and his leadership and composure on the field gave us great confidence as a team. Having him with us again will be a big boost, especially with the intensity of the Super Cup. His experience will help our younger players and bring stability to the squad.”
Jamshedpur FC are currently training in Jamshedpur under the guidance of Steven Dias as they gear up for their Group B fixtures in Goa. The Men of Steel will open their campaign against FC Goa on October 26, followed by matches against North East United FC on October 29 and Inter Kashi on November 1.
