“Sometimes it is not just your day and that was the case for us tonight.” - Gaffer post #FCGJFC

After suffering a defeat against FC Goa, Jamshedpur Head Coach, Aidy Boothroyd talks about his thoughts on the final result of the Men of Steel’s 100th Hero ISL fixture in Goa.

Here are the excerpts from his post-match press conference:

Your thoughts on the result of the tough loss against FC Goa…

We worked very hard on our game plan, depending on our opponents and we did that today as well. FC Goa is a very good team, and we had a plan for them like every other team. But within the first four to five minutes, our plan went straight out the window, so we had to adapt and improvise. I was happy with our level of performance, individually and collectively, in the second half, and this is how football is for the coach or the players. For a minute, you are out of the game, and the next minute, you come fighting, and that is what we intend to do.

Any reason why we did not see any goals from Jamshedpur FC…

We did create a lot of chances. We have to give credit to the FC Goa goalkeeper (Dheeraj Singh), who managed to keep the ball out the net at every opportunity that we came through with. I would have been worried if we conceded a lot of goals without creating any chances. Sometimes it is not just your day and unfortunately, that was the case for us tonight.

Was the team caught off guard by FC Goa in the initial minutes?

We have played FC Goa in the pre-season, so they did not catch us off guard. One can prepare as much as they like, but when you are 2-0 down after 10 minutes, it is a problem. We have to analyze how we managed to start the game in such a manner and make sure it does not happen again going forward.

On FC Goa being more motivated to win since it was their first home game of the season…

It was FC Goa’s night. The crowd was like any other crowd that wanted the players to get going, and it excited them. We gave them the opportunity to score two goals, and after that, any set of supporters would get cheered up and show us our place.
