Spotless Jamshedpur FC will look to maintain momentum

Jamshedpur FC have had a fairy tale start to Indian Super League 2019-20. Sitting atop the points table with three wins and a draw, the team is unbeaten in their ISL campaign so far and will be looking to continue their spotless momentum going for the rest of the season. The team started their ISL season off against debutantes, Odisha FC, who travelled to the Furnace on October 22, 2019.

Even with a man short, the home side managed a 2-1 win against their visitors to commence the campaign on a high. A deflected Farukh Choudhary cross that landed in the back of the net broke the deadlock at the brink of half-time. An equalizer from Adriane Santana was not enough to keep the newbies in the fixture as Jamshedpur FC's Spanish duo consisting of Piti and Sergio Castel linked up, upfront to snatch the lead in the dying embers of the match. A full-house JRD Tata Sports Complex witnessed their home team create history with this dream start.

Our second consecutive win of the season came in our second fixture against Hyderabad FC, when we hosted them at the Furnace on October 29, 2019. A comfortable 3-1 victory against the new ISL side placed us right on top of the ISL points table after we gathered the maximum number of points in the first two matches. Strikes from Farukh Choudhary, Aniket Jadhav, and Sergio Castel lit up the Furnace with drums and roars around the arena.

Looking to keep the ball rolling, our tough challenge came against the defending champions, Bengaluru FC in a match that managed to keep every single one of the 23,000+ spectators on the edge of their seats without a single goal being scored in the fixture. Both goalkeepers, Subrata Paul and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, were tested in regular intervals but managed to deny every single shot that came at them. A tough contest between two quality contenders ended in a goalless stalemate, increasing out unbeaten count to three, and maintaining the top spot on the points table. Our ‘Indian Spiderman,’ Subrata Paul seemed to be at the top of his game on Sunday night, making a total of nine saves against the Blues.

We travel to Kolkata, the ‘football capital’ of India, for our next challenge against two-time ISL Champions, ATK. The two teams will fight for three points at the Salt Lake Stadium on November 9, 2019. The home side have won two out of their three ISL fixtures so far and will be determined to impress their fans and put on a tough fight against Jamshedpur FC.

After Kolkata, Jamshedpur FC will travel to the home of last season’s runners-up, FC Goa. The team will face the Gaurs at the Fatorda in what promises to be a fixture that will see the heat being turned up courtesy the history the two sides have in the ISL, as well as the Super Cup of 2017.
