Ritwik Das’ Last-Gasp Strike Keeps Jamshedpur FC in Title Hunt
Jamshedpur, April 4: Jamshedpur FC once again lived up to their ‘Men of Steel’ identity, clawing their way back from the brink with a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to hold Mohun Bagan SG 1-1 at a roaring Furnace. Supersub Ritwik Das emerged as the hero, heading home in the dying moments to secure a crucial point and keep Jamshedpur firmly in the ISL 2025-26 title race.
The result takes both Jamshedpur FC and Mohun Bagan SG to 14 points, setting up an even tighter battle at the top. With league leaders Mumbai City FC awaiting on April 9, the Men of Steel have once again shown they have the character to stay in the hunt.
The night began with promise for the hosts, who started on the front foot. However, the momentum slowly shifted as Mohun Bagan settled into the game. In the 15th minute, Liston Colaco produced a moment of quality, curling a brilliant effort from outside the box beyond Albino Gomes to give the visitors the lead.
Trailing early, Jamshedpur responded with intent. Sanan and Vincy Barretto became key outlets, driving attacks down the flanks and stretching the Mohun Bagan defence. The hosts created a few openings, with their best chance of the first half arriving just before the break when Sanan’s cut-back found Nikola Stojanović, but the forward fired over the bar.
The second half saw a more aggressive Jamshedpur side, backed by an increasingly vocal Furnace. Head coach Owen Coyle looked to change the tempo in the 65th minute with a triple substitution, introducing Rei Tachikawa, Rosenberg Gabriel, and Puia. The changes injected urgency, with Rosenberg immediately forcing a corner and Puia trying his luck from distance.
As the minutes ticked down, the pressure mounted. Rei won another corner amid deafening chants from the stands, while Rosenberg and Messi Bouli combined to test the defence. Sanan came closest in the 84th minute with a powerful long-range strike, only to be denied by a flying save from the Mohun Bagan goalkeeper.
With time running out, Coyle made another decisive move, bringing on Ritwik Das in the closing stages. It proved to be a masterstroke.
Deep into stoppage time, in the 94th minute, Messi Bouli delivered a telling cross into the box. Unmarked Ritwik Das powered a header into the far post, sending the Furnace into absolute frenzy.
This was not the first time Jamshedpur FC have shown such resilience this season. From grinding out narrow 1-0 wins to battling adversity with ten men against Inter Kashi, this team has repeatedly demonstrated that they are, quite literally, made of steel.
