“We will ensure we’re more clinical and defend better to avoid conceding goals” - Owen Coyle post #JFCCFC

After an undesired result in the first game of 2022 against Chennaiyin FC, the Gaffer talks about the team’s performance in #JFCCFC, if absence of players are affecting the results of the games and much more.

Here are the excerpts from the post-match press conference:

On the goal conceded against the run of play and availability of other center-backs at Jamshedpur ...

We always look at everybody available and I think it's important that you don't single out anybody individually, because if we win as a team, then we lose as a team as well. So I don't like the way people blame one person for a result of the game when we play as a group. So, I believe we conceded the goal as a group and I never ever believe in blaming individuals in my team. Of course we have players available for every position. But the most important thing is we put enough into the game to churn out positive results. The goal that we conceded was from a set-piece which we could have avoided but we feel we were the better team throughout the duration of the game, and you are absolutely right, we conceded the goal against the run of play. We had wonderful chances but we missed out on capitalizing on them to score goals. So that's something we need to be better at as we will make sure we’re clinical in taking chances and avoiding goals by defending better.

On lack of goals in the last 3 matches...

We have genuine number nines in Jordan Murray and in Ishan Pandita. We are also looking to bring another one in. Of course we want to score more goals and we even have players that can score goals. So I think it's always easy when a team has lost the game to say that it was because of an absence of a certain player. At one point of time in the league, we were winning games and it was not just because of a particular individual performance but the result of the team's efforts. At the end of the day, we will freshen up, pick ourselves up and we'll look to go into our next game. There are a lot of games and a lot of points ahead of us that we know we can win as we move forward in the league.

On the departure of Valskis to Chennaiyin...

At the end of the day, Valskis knows he is always capable of doing very well in any team he plays for. He contributed a lot when he played for Jamshedpur FC. However he was in a position where he scored only 2 goals in 14 games for us and both came in one game. But he is a wonderful lad and we as a team will always wish him well for his future. He did wonders for me when we were in Chennaiyin FC. The bottom line is that our players were happy going on the pitch and were comfortable playing, which is something that is important for me as my group of players are my first priority. So we will look to freshen up from the result, get ready for the upcoming fixtures and that is what our main aim will be going forward.

On the rumours about Corominas to Jamshedpur...

No, those rumors are untrue. I think, Corominas is a wonderful player and I have been an admirer of his game for many years. But the rumours of him joining the club are based on no proper foundation. We have not spoken to anybody in regards to Coro or to the player himself. So I don't know where the rumours of this signing came from. But, we are actively speaking to a couple of targeted players and if there are players coming in during the transfer season, then we will be the first to confirm that news.
