The 130th edition of the historical Durand Cup is ready to make a comeback after a year of inactivity. The scheduled dates for Asia’s oldest tournament are from the 5th of September to the 3rd of October, which will be held in Kolkata. 

The Format:

The Durand Cup will be a domestic 16-team group stage plus knockout competition. The teams have been divided into 4 groups of 4 teams each. Jamshedpur will be participating along with 15 other clubs from various domestic leagues and with teams representing the national forces. The top two clubs from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.

What Jamshedpur FC’s group looks like:

The young guns of Jamshedpur have 3 tough fixtures awaiting them. They will be part of Group B which comprises ISL rivals FC Goa, I-League club Sudeva Delhi and Army Green Football Team. 

Jamshedpur FC will first face Sudeva Delhi on 6 September. They became the first team from the nation’s capital to participate in the I-League. The club is affiliated with the Spanish club, CD Olímpic de Xàtiva and is filled with multiple young and skilled talents who could provide a tough competition to all with their speed and creativity on the pitch. 

Next, the young stars of Jamshedpur will be facing Army Green Football Team. The Army Green serves as one of the teams for the Indian Army who are regulars in the Durand Cup. The team has also lifted the cup in the year 2016 when they defeated NEROCA FC in the finals. The young side with a strong approach and swift players will be looking to reclaim the trophy this season as well and will be another tough challenge for us as they will aim to top the Group B table.

Jamshedpur’s final game of the group stage will be vs FC Goa, which will be the match to watch out for in Group B. Both clubs would not only look to get competitive minutes but will also have the spark of an ISL fixture. The Gaurs had a good run-in during the Durand Cup 2019 campaign as they narrowly missed out on qualifying for the knockout stages and just like Jamshedpur, they will be looking to go one better this time.

17 September vs FC Goa | 3 PM | Venue – VYBK Salt Lake Stadium
