Match Preview: ISL’s best defence v its best offense – Jamshedpur FC vs Bengaluru FC

We’re all set for a high-stakes battle this time around in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18, as Jamshedpur FC’s play-off hopes would come so much closer to realization with the three points available from this clash. Both teams are only in their debut ISL season but have played against each other previously in the reverse fixture held in Bengaluru. Bengaluru FC were highly fancied in that encounter and faced defeat against a defensively sound Jamshedpur FC.

Leading up to this game, the circumstances are somewhat different. Bengaluru FC have enjoyed a winning run in the league and find themselves perched at the top, while Jamshedpur FC have fought tooth-and-nail for results and now find themselves in the thick of a battle for the play-off spots. The points on offer in this game are of equal importance to both sides, as Bengaluru FC will wish to avoid falling into a play-off battle themselves and Jamshedpur FC can put further distance between their play-off competitors.

Albert Roca’s side are the highest scoring team in the ISL and his style of play reflects a willingness to play fluid yet risky football. Coach Steve Coppell on the other hand, believes in a resolute defensive unit and a quick counter-attack oriented offense that can exploit opponent’s weaknesses. This tactical battle will play a major part in the outcome in this match.

“I do not think it is a do-or-die game for us. The last four or five games we have been in a similar situation. We have had some good results. We have clawed our way into the top four and we would like to stay there. I personally have a great deal of respect for Bengaluru FC. In order to pick three points from this game, we have to match their abilities. We are looking forward to it and relishing a really big challenge,” Coppell was quoted as saying at the pre-match press conference.

Jamshedpur FC will play this game at home, despite the match being set in Bhubaneswar. The Kalinga Stadium will play host to this fixture and the people of Bhubaneswar are excited to experience a night of ISL football in their very own backyard. Whatever the result of the game may be, we hope the fans in Bhubaneswar experience a stellar game to bring in their very first Jamshedpur FC game!

“First of all, we were welcomed in a grand fashion. The training facility is excellent. The stadium and the pitch itself looked very good. We hope that we will have a good game here tomorrow,” Coppell added.
