“There is still a lot to play for.” – Steve Coppell upbeat despite tough loss in Bhubaneswar

Jamshedpur FC took on Bengaluru FC in a charged encounter in the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and came away with a disappointing 0-2 loss in the Hero Indian Super League 2017-18. Our previous victory against Albert Roca’s side this season came courtesy of a late goal from Trindade and this encounter shared the intensity of its predecessor till the very final minute.

“The victory tonight was 7 out of 9 away games they’ve won, which is exceptional.” said Coach Coppell, as he conceded that Bengaluru FC were a quality opponent and were in good form even before this game. The gaffer admitted his side made some uncharacteristic plays, which ultimately cost them the result. “The two goals we conceded were due to back passes, which is not like us, we don’t pass back very much. The second goal was from a set-piece and we knew how dangerous they would be from set-pieces.” said Coach Coppell as he shared his thoughts on the final result.

Bengaluru FC benefited from a quality individual performance from goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. “We had 20-odd shots, we had some really good situations. Their goalkeeper made some terrific saves.” Said Coach Coppell as he praised the opposition No. 1’s performance and the role it played in their win.

There is still some work to do however, and Coach Coppell knows the season isn’t over till the final day of the season. “This is disappointing and from here we’ve got to lick our wounds and come back fighting next week and really have a go to try and win against FC Goa. If FC Goa win two games they could be in a position for the playoffs, there is still a lot to play for.” Said the gaffer on his next opponents and the competitive phase the ISL presently finds itself in.
