Amarjit on farming, staying active and connecting back to his roots

Making the proverbial lemonade out of the lemon is the best approach to sail through the Covid-19 pandemic and that is exactly what our midfielder, Amarjit, has been up to.

With all outdoor activities coming to a complete halt, including football, Amarjit hasn’t let the situation deter him in any way as he is now helping his family in paddy cultivation in his hometown in Manipur.

Amarjit is proudly giving a hand in the transportation of the paddy seedlings and farming in the piece of land that belongs to his family.

"I was helping my family in the paddy field to do the farming. There's no shame in going back to your roots and helping your family on the paddy fields. My family has been farming for generations. But I myself never paid much attention to farming since I was a kid. I was always too much into football," said Amarjit.

Always a firepower on the football field, be it during ISL or national games, the youngster saw this situation as an opportunity to connect back to his roots.

"Normally, I don't get to be home for a long time. Even when the season is over, we go on some exposure tour or the other with the junior national teams. So when I do eventually get to come home for a few weeks, it's generally not the season for cultivation. Now I have got the time to actually go out there and reconnect with my roots. I feel proud. I've learnt the different aspects of farming, and I can tell you it's quite a draining activity,"

Apart from helping out with the farming, he talks about how refreshing it is to step out and be active.

"It's always nice to have some sort of activity as a hobby, something that helps keep your mind off football for a couple of hours every day. I think farming has done that for me. I'm really enjoying this activity."

We could not be more proud of what Amarjit is doing even if we tried.

Keep it up, Amarjit. You are inspiring us all to stay active, safe and positive through it all.
