“Both teams will be going all out for 3 points” – Steve Coppell

Jamshedpur FC gaffer Steve Coppell lays down his thoughts to the media ahead of our crucial clash vs Chennaiyin FC. Excerpts from the pre-match press conference:

On gaining momentum at the right time…

Are we peaking at right time? I certainly hope so. We have 3 very difficult games remaining. If after the first 3 matches of the season you’d be saying we would be fighting for a semi-final spot at this stage, I’d happily take it. We are happy to be in this situation, happy to be fighting.

On being perceived as a defensive team…

We don’t go out just to defend. Of course, we work hard to defend in the matches. But, that’s not our aim. Our aim is to win. In training we give equal importance to attacking strategies. And when we attack, we like to attack quickly and have as much possession as possible to control the game. We are trying to play effective football instead of being aesthetically more pleasing to the eye.

On Wellington’s effect on the squad…

I quite like the idea of having a transfer window considering it’s a long season now. It’s good to have an influx of new talent and refresh your squad. Wellington is a good example here.

On if revenge will be a factor vs Chennaiyin FC…

At this stage of the season, there is more significance on the results. Revenge (of our loss vs Chennaiyin FC in December) does not factor in at all as we need those 3 points. We know we need to work hard. We know Chennaiyin will be equally determined as we are and hence, it will be a very challenging game. It’s going to be a fascinating contest as both teams will go all out to win.
