#FCGJFC Match Preview: Time to face the Gaurs again

Jamshedpur FC had a rough start in the second leg of the ISL as they were held back from winning by Kerala Blasters at Tilak Maidan. Both teams shared the field for their 10th game of the season with an intention to win and grab the 3 crucial points. However, those plans didn’t come to fruition for Jamshedpur and after a tough fight, they lost the battle with a final scoreline of 3-2.

Jamshedpur will now move on to their next challenge against FC Goa at the Fatorda stadium for the second time this season. Both teams have faced each other 7 times in the ISL, and tonight, they will be going head-to-head yet again for the 8th time.

The two teams faced each other in December 2020 for their first clash of the season. With a star-studded line-up on both sides, the game turned out to be an intense contest of football with multiple moments of highs. The fixture kicked-off with high energy as both looked to net the first goal of the match to take the lead. The first goal of the match was seen in just a few minutes before the half-time; Stephen Eze took Jamshedpur to the lead with a stunning acrobatic finish from the left corner of the post which was supplied by Aitor from a free kick. With the lead in hand, Jamshedpur held their ground in the defence while Goa rained down attacks to get an equaliser to get back in the game.

Just as the game reached the 60 minute mark, FC Goa found themselves with a chance to equalise the score after a foul inside the Jamshedpur box. Igor Angulo (the striker with most goals in ISL currently) stepped up to take the penalty and netted it comfortably. With just 20 minutes left before the final whistle, both sides charged with the intent to one up the other and secure the win. A very close call came for FC Goa as a free kick taken by Valskis was almost on its way into the net but unfortunately for Jamshedpur, it deflected off the crossbar. Another chance to take the lead came for Jamshedpur, as Alex Lima took a shot from the edge of the box which hit the lower portion of the woodwork and bounced within the goal line. It should have been a goal, but the linesman referee did not raise his flag and the goal was disallowed, thus making an unjust decision against the Jamshedpur FC. In the final few minutes, FC Goa got a last minute corner kick; Edu Bedia took the corner kick and lobbed the ball into the near post to find Igor Angulo right under the cross. Making the best out of the last opportunity, Igor headed the ball on target from the near post and it flew past Rehenesh’s gloves thus giving the Gaurs a last minute finisher. The fixture came to an end with FC Goa bagging victory and walking away with the 3 points, leaving Jamshedpur FC disheartened with the officiating that night.

Currently, Jamshedpur are in the 5th position after the loss against Kerala Blasters while FC Goa are in the 4th position after two consecutive wins and a draw in their last 3 matches. Keeping the current standings in mind, both teams will set their focus on grabbing the 3 points to proceed up the league table to the top 4 and maintain a spot for the play-offs.

Two of the best strikers in the league, Nerijus Valskis (Jamshedpur FC) and Igor Angulo (FC Goa) will be competing for the second time this season, looking to take the lead in the race for the Golden Boot award. Apart from the epic clash between two of the finest strikers in the league, both Jamshedpur FC and FC Goa will feature some strong tactical midfielders like Aitor, Alex Lima and Jackichand Singh in the Jamshedpur line-up along with Brandon Fernandes, Edu Bedia, Alberto Noguera and many more in the Goan line-up.

While they possess a strong set of players in the field upwards, both teams also harbour a concrete line of defence and quick-on-their-reflex goalkeepers, and now with David Grande, Nick Fitzgerald and Joyner Laurenco’s return, Jamshedpur will be looking to bring in some fresh legs to their side and aim to settle the score with the Gaurs this time.

The current fixture record for the two teams are as follows:
