First Interview: Rehenesh TP

After Pawan Kumar, former Kerala Blasters FC goalkeeper, Rehenesh TP becomes the newest addition to strengthen the club’s goalkeeping side.

With a collective experience of over eight years with 35 clean sheets in 128 matches, Rehenesh will be a solid addition as a first-choice keeper for the club.

Here are a few excerpts from his first interview:

On his reasons to move to Jamshedpur FC…

I have heard wonderful things about Jamshedpur FC like the facilities they offer and the amazing hospitality that they provide to the team. Also, the fans are so passionate and supportive of the club and the players that I just knew I had to make the most of this opportunity.

On his stint with Kerala Blasters FC from last season…

I have learned that football is all about mistakes and learning from them, and that is the only way to improve. Mistakes are bound to happen, but how we recover from them is what matters, and try not to repeat them so that we become better as players. I’m not forgetting anything from last season. I am learning from it and taking all the positive things that I can. I want to move forward, work better, and hope for a great season ahead with a great club.

On how he plans to seal his spot in the playing 11...

Of course, it won’t be easy. Pawan and Niraj are truly talented keepers but I’ll try to give my best in every training session and every minute I get to play. The rest is in the gaffer’s hand. He will decide which one of us is better for the team. Either way, Pawan and I have a very good relationship. We have known each other for a long time so yes, I’m looking forward to working with him again.

On the best experience in his football career…

Words can’t describe how I am feeling, to be honest. I am what I am today because of football. But everything in my life just got exponentially better after I joined ISL. All this fame and attention I’m being showered with is because of football. The luckiest thing to have happened to me was when I got to wear our national team jersey and that’s the biggest dream for any footballer in India.

On the upcoming challenge of filling the shoes of a senior player at Jamshedpur FC…

For me, he is one of the best keepers in our country, and with his extraordinary abilities and commitment, Paul Da still stands tall amongst all the keepers. I’m not saying I’m here to fulfill his absence or anything, but I promise I’ll give my best and help the team have a great season.

On his overall experience in Jamshedpur...

I have never seen the Jamshedpur galleries empty. It has always been jam-packed. The crowd is so vocal and passionate. I am definitely going to miss their presence this season.

Message for the fans…

First of all, thank you to all the fans who welcomed me with so much love. You guys have been fantastic all these years. I’ve played in front of you so many times but never as one of you. That has changed. I’m going to miss you guys at the stadium this time. Unfortunately, this season is a bit different from the previous ones but I’m sure you are going to shower the same love virtually and support us like you always have.

Let’s make ISL Season 2020-21 a great one together.

Jam ke Khelo, Jamshedpur!
