“It’s a valuable point for us” – Steve Coppell

Jamshedpur FC gaffer Steve Coppell lays down his thoughts to the media after sharing spoils with Chennaiyin FC. Excerpts from the post-match press conference:

On if it was a point gained, or two points lost…

It’s a valuable point as far as I am concerned. It probably helped Chennai more than us. This is a difficult place to come to. Chennai put a lot of pressure in the 2nd half. And it was unfortunate to concede the goal in the final minutes of the game. I know Rafi. He was with me at Kerala Blasters last season and he is very good in the air. But he let me down by scoring (smirks).

On Wellington making a difference again…

Wellington has been a significant difference for us since he has come in. He can play a variety of positions. He brings in a lot of substance going forward. And as a bonus he is scoring world-class goals too.

On facing Bengaluru FC next…

We’ve done very well in recent games to put ourselves in this position. We need to sustain this till the ed. We know Bengaluru is the best in the league. They are at the top. And we play vs them at our home away from home in Bhubaneshwar.

On handing Sumeet Passi a start…

He has worked very hard. He has spent a lot of time in rehab and in the gym. It was a magnificent effort by Passi, to be 11 months out of the game and get 70 minutes under his belt. It is good for India because he is the type of player who provides an option to the national team.
