Souvik Chakrabarti, the highly rated lad from Kolkata can slot in seamlessly as a defender and a midfielder. The versatile player enjoyed a fruitful stint with the Delhi outfit, where he spent three seasons. He is widely described as an athletic and hardworking player and will be hoping to bring his energy to the team when he dons the Jamshedpur colors this season.
With the pre-season tour in Thailand over, we took some time to catch up with the dynamic midfielder ahead of our debut in the Indian Super League.
On his previous ISL experiences…
My experience has been good, unfortunately, I’ve been to the semi-finals twice and lost. I’ll be hoping to be third time lucky and be champions with Jamshedpur FC.
On reuniting with his former teammates Anas and Memo…
It’s great to be back with Anas and Memo. Anas is one of the best Indian defenders currently, and there’s a lot I could learn from him. Memo is a very experienced player having played with top Brazilian clubs and has experience of playing in the ISL. There’s a lot to learn from both of them which will help me improve my game.
On the pre-season till now…
The pre-season was testing. We played some tough matches and ended up winning 4 out of 5 pre-season games. We’ve learned a lot from these games and have worked on our mistakes. We’re confident we’ll be ready right in time for the ISL.
On the technical staff at Jamshedpur FC…
It’s my first time under Steve Coppell, Walter Downes and Ishfaq Ahmed. I’ve learned a lot from them in this short span of time. It’s been a great learning experience so far!
The players make the return trip from Bangkok to Jamshedpur with a day’s halt in Kolkata.
