Jamshedpur FC Appoint Sandy Stewart as Assistant Coach Ahead of ISL Season

Jamshedpur, January 25: Jamshedpur FC have appointed Sandy Stewart as the club’s Assistant Coach, strengthening the senior team’s coaching set-up ahead of the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season.

A familiar face in Owen Coyle’s coaching staff, Stewart reunites with the head coach after previously working alongside him in India with Chennaiyin FC and Jamshedpur FC. The Scottish coach has been Coyle’s long-time assistant across multiple clubs since 2007, forming a partnership that has delivered strong results in different leagues and environments.

Born in Bellshill, Scotland, Stewart is a former professional left-back who enjoyed a notable playing career with clubs including Hearts, Kilmarnock, Airdrieonians, Partick Thistle and Airdrie United. He is strongly associated with Airdrieonians, where he made over 300 appearances across two spells and won the Scottish Challenge Cup twice (1994–95 and 2001–02).

Stewart moved into coaching soon after retirement and became the first manager of the re-formed Airdrie United in 2002, before transitioning into assistant roles at the highest level. He first joined Owen Coyle’s staff at St Johnstone in February 2007 and later served as caretaker manager during a transition period when Coyle left for Burnley.

Over the years, Stewart has worked as Coyle’s assistant at several clubs including Burnley, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Houston Dynamo (MLS), Blackburn Rovers and Ross County. During Coyle’s time in the United States, Stewart was announced as his “primary assistant,” reflecting the long-standing trust and continuity between the two coaches.

Sandy Stewart, equally excited to be back with the club, said,"I'm absolutely delighted to be back at Jamshedpur FC! I have fond memories of my previous stint here, and I'm excited to reunite with familiar faces and work alongside the talented team behind the scenes. Their passion and ambition are truly inspiring. Our squad is looking strong, and I have great optimism about our chances this season. Playing at home for the first time will be a new experience, and we're eager to make the most of our fabulous support. We'll give it our all to bring success to this fantastic football club."

Stewart’s return to Jamshedpur FC adds valuable experience and stability to the coaching unit, with the club set to begin its preparations for an intense pre-season camp as the Men of Steel gear up for the new ISL campaign.
