Jamshedpur FC bid big at the ISL 2017-18 Indian Player Draft, held in Mumbai, for our maiden ISL season. The club drafted 15 players with big names like Anas Edathodika (Defender), for a whopping Rs 1.1 crore, the costliest player in the draft, Subrata Paul (Goalkeeper), Mehtab Hossain (Midfielder) and Souvik Chakraborti (Midfielder), building a formidable team to make a mark in the first appearance at the coveted 2017-18 Indian Super League. A total of 205 players were up for grabs at the draft auction at the ISL.
At the panel, we had Steve Coppell (Head Coach) and Ishfaq Ahmed (Assistant Coach) ably supported by the experience of Mukul Choudhari (CEO) and Gaurav Khilari (Analyst) along with Mr. Koushik Chatterjee (Group Executive Director - Finance, Corporate and Europe, Tata Steel), Mr. Sunil Bhaskaran (Vice President Corporate Services, Tata Steel & Chairman, Tata Football Academy), and Mr. Suprakash Mukhopadhyay (Chairman, Tata Sports Club), to pick our players during the draft.
Steve Coppell was happy with the players they got as he exclaimed, “All in all I am very pleased with the squad of players we have compiled. I hope the public of Jamshedpur will enjoy watching the team in the coming season.”
Ishfaq Ahmed spoke about the importance of experience being added to the squad, “At the beginning we were looking for experience. The team is new and that will be very important. Also, some of the players are TFA graduates, one of them being Subrata, which will prove to be very helpful.”
