Jamshedpur FC Bow Out After Brave Fight in Kolkata

Kolkata, April 7 – Jamshedpur FC’s spirited ISL 2024-25 campaign came to an end on Saturday night as they fell 2-0 to Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Salt Lake Stadium, bowing out 3-2 on aggregate in the second leg of the semi-final.

After a memorable 2-1 win in the first leg at The Furnace, Jamshedpur arrived in Kolkata knowing that a draw would be enough to send them to their first-ever ISL final. Head coach Khalid Jamil set up his side with a compact low block, banking on defensive discipline and quick counters.

The opening exchanges saw Mohun Bagan dominate possession, but Jamshedpur stayed well-organised at the back. Albino Gomes was called into action multiple times in the first half, making a series of saves to deny Mohun Bagan SG several times. Despite the pressure, the visitors held firm, going into halftime with the score locked at 0-0.

The second half began with a moment of promise as Javi Hernandez tried his luck from distance in the 46th minute, missing by mere inches. However, the breakthrough came for the home side in the 51st minute. Cummings converted from the penalty spot after a contentious handball call, levelling the aggregate score at 2-2.

Khalid Jamil responded immediately with a triple substitution, bringing on Siverio, Ritwik, and Sreekuttan to spark a response. Jamshedpur looked to turn the tide with more attacking intent, but Mohun Bagan stayed resolute.

However, in the injury time, Apuia slotted home Mohun Bagan's second of the night, sealing the comeback and sending the Mariners into the final.

Though Jamshedpur’s dream ended, it was not without earning respect. From finishing fifth in the league to knocking out NorthEast United and stunning the Shield winners in the first leg, JFC’s run has been nothing short of valiant.
It was a season of belief, revival, and pride under Khalid Jamil and the Men of Steel can only return stronger.
