Jamshedpur FC mark World Environment Day with a special campaign

This World Environment Day, Jamshedpur FC along with its players and staff, stepped up to raise awareness on social media about the need to conserve the environment and promote a sustainable living with #GoGreen campaign.

To kickstart the campaign, a contest was held to promote green week. The participants were requested to post a photo/video of them with a plant or of them watering plants or of them planting saplings in their house. The participants were required to further tag 3 of their friends and spread the #GoGreen movement to as many people as possible, thus leading to more people planting trees. In the end, 3 winners were chosen from this contest and were rewarded with Jamshedpur FC’s exclusive green training kit to symbolize the #GoGreen initiative. Needless to say, participants quickly took part in this initiative; responses flooded in, thus showing their full support.

The idea of this activity was to urge people to grow and take care of plants and saplings at their own homes and contribute towards building a healthier, greener environment whilst also showcasing their love for the greenery.

The players and staff too decided to join the initiative to encourage more people to hop on the #GoGreen movement. Here’s what some of them had to say:

Noel Wilson, Assistant Coach at Jamshedpur FC - “I have always had a deep connection with the plants at home. I take good care of them as it provides us with fresh and cleaner air. This World Environment Day, I encourage everyone to plant as many saplings as possible and contribute towards saving the environment for our future generations.”

Sandip Mandi, Defender at Jamshedpur FC - “We should do everything in our capacity to save the environment. Even a small step like planting a sapling at home can go a long way to ensure a food environment for our future generations.”

Bhupender Singh, Midfielder at Jamshedpur FC - “I love watering my plants in the morning and keeping them fresh. I treat them as my friends and I think everyone should plant more plants in their homes and contribute to making the earth a better, healthier place to live in."

On the second day, Jamshedpur FC took up the responsibility to build awareness amongst the audience about the harmful effects of plastic and its usage on the environment, by sharing some simple and eco-friendly alternatives that an individual could switch to instead of using plastic products, thus helping the world reduce the usage of plastic. To spread the word further, our Assistant Coach, Sandy Stewart, came forward to talk about replacing plastic straws with paper straws to contribute to the reduction of plastic usage and pollution.

“I decided to use paper straws instead of plastic ones and various other plastic alternatives ever since I learned about plastic being one of the major pollutants in the oceans. It's life-threatening for sea creatures, and basically all living beings. So, I would encourage everyone to switch to healthier alternatives rather than using plastic at the earliest.“

The main goal was to persuade the audience to reduce buying and using plastic products and replacing them with eco-friendly alternatives that are biodegradable.

Jamshedpur FC proceeded to talk about the ways one can contribute in protecting the environment with a quick lesson on the process of waste management. A number of easy procedures were shared via a poster on social media platforms on the safe ways of managing waste, safely disposing the waste and how to effectively recycle the waste.

The club further talked about the critical issue of air pollution, of how it is another major concern for the environment, and asked their fans to help them reduce air pollution for a healthier atmosphere for the future generations by adopting eco-friendly transportation methods such as cycling and walking instead of choosing vehicles running on fuel.

Noel Wilson too shared his love for cycling - “Cycling has always been one of my favorite outdoor activities. I cycle almost every day and choose to use this eco-friendly transportation whenever I'm travelling to nearby places. I truly believe that cycles should be encouraged more to avoid the pollution and keep our atmosphere clean and fresh.”

And that’s how Jamshedpur FC celebrated a successful and satisfying green week just ahead of the World Environment Day, with a healthy dose of encouragement and contribution towards healing and saving the mother earth via eco-friendly habits.
