Jamshedpur FC Script History, Reach Super Cup Semifinals After Thrilling Shootout

Bhubaneswar, April 27: In a night of high drama at the Kalinga Stadium, Jamshedpur FC edged past NorthEast United FC 5-4 in a tense penalty shootout to book their place in the semifinals of the Kalinga Super Cup, where they will face Mumbai City FC. The result marks a historic achievement for the Men of Steel, who have now entered the semifinals of the tournament for a third consecutive time.

The match ended goalless at full-time, forcing a direct transition into penalties. When it mattered most, Jamshedpur FC held their nerve, with Siverio, Javi Hernandez, Rei Tachikawa, Ashutosh Mehta, and Lazar Cirkovic all converting their spot-kicks in clinical fashion.

The early stages of the match saw Jamshedpur FC come out with real intent, dominating the first 15 minutes. Siverio had the best chance of the opening spell, shooting from the edge of the box after being set up by Jordan Murray, but the NorthEast United goalkeeper pulled off a fine save.

Albino Gomes was exceptional in goal for Jamshedpur, making two crucial saves to deny NorthEast at key moments. Apart from these flashes, the game was largely a midfield battle, with neither side creating many clear-cut chances.

After the break, Jamshedpur FC pushed harder. In the 53rd minute, Jordan Murray's header from a corner narrowly missed the target. Just minutes later, Murray again came close, aiming for the far post but shooting wide. In the 73rd minute, Murray had another golden opportunity, heading a Javi Hernandez cross straight at the goalkeeper.

Despite constant pressure, the deadlock could not be broken in regulation time, and the game went straight to penalties. Jamshedpur showed composure during the penalties, while Albino’s presence added confidence.

With this victory, Jamshedpur FC continue their impressive Super Cup tradition and now gear up for a challenging semifinal against Mumbai City FC on April 30 at Kalinga Stadium
