Jamshedpur, January 16: Jamshedpur FC will host league leaders Mohun Bagan SG at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on January 21 at 7:30 PM in what promises to be a thrilling Indian Super League (ISL) encounter. Both teams will aim to consolidate their positions in the league as the race for the playoffs intensifies.
Jamshedpur FC currently sits second in the standings with 27 points from 14 matches, while Mohun Bagan SG leads the table with 35 points from 15 matches. With a game in hand over Mohun Bagan, the Men of Steel have the opportunity to close the gap with a win in this critical fixture.
The last time these two sides faced off in Kolkata, Mohun Bagan clinched a dominant 3-0 victory. However, playing at home, Jamshedpur FC will look to reverse that result and build on their formidable record at the Furnace, where they have lost just one match this season. On the other hand, Mohun Bagan SG boasts an unbeaten home record and has conceded the fewest goals in the league this season—just 13.
Jamshedpur’s recent defensive stability has been a key factor in their resurgence. Young right-back Nikhil Barla has been outstanding, adapting brilliantly to his new role in the backline and earning plaudits for his ability to neutralise some of the league’s top attackers. Alongside experienced defenders like Stephen Eze and Pratik Chaudhari, Barla’s performances have bolstered Jamshedpur’s defence, which will need to remain rock solid to thwart Mohun Bagan’s potent attack.
Khalid has also successfully tried out Cirkovic-Sourav Das combo in midfield to earn Jamshedpur an elusive clean sheet in their resounding win against Mumbai City FC.
Head coach Khalid Jamil expressed confidence in his team’s ability to rise to the occasion. “Playing at home is always special, and we are aiming for three points in front of our fans. If we maintain our focus and work as a team, we can achieve our goals,” Jamil said.
Striker Javier Siverio, who has been instrumental in Jamshedpur’s recent success, echoed similar sentiments. “We’re taking it game by game, step by step. The team has been doing an amazing job, and being among the top teams is a great feeling,” he said.
While Jamshedpur’s defensive unit has shown improvement in recent matches, they will need to be at their best to counter Mohun Bagan’s potent attacking lineup, which includes top performers like Dimitri Petratos and Manvir Singh. Additionally, Mohun Bagan’s solid defence, led by their formidable foreign centre-backs, will make it a challenge for Jamshedpur’s forwards to break through.
With both teams boasting strong home records and a competitive edge, the clash is set to be an electrifying battle under the lights at the Furnace. Tickets for the match can be brought at the Box Office at Gate 2 or online at ticketgenie.in
