Jamshedpur, July 16: Excitement is building in Jamshedpur as the city prepares to host Durand Cup matches at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, marking the return of top-tier football after the Indian Super League earlier this year. Fans across the city are ready to back Jamshedpur FC, who will play all their group games on home turf in front of what promises to be a passionate crowd.
Supporters see this tournament as a crucial opportunity for the team to chase silverware and make amends for last season. Raja Hansdah from the local fan group Tribes summed up the mood. “After the Indian Super League, it feels great to have top-level football back in Jamshedpur. Everyone here is banking on Jamshedpur FC to deliver. With new signings and a strengthened squad, we truly believe we can achieve glory this time.”
The famous South Stand, known for its deafening chants and unwavering loyalty, is expected to be packed for every game. Dharmesh Samant, representing the South Stand Fans, said. “We’ll be right there in the famous South Stand, backing the team with everything we have. We believe in Coach Khalid Jamil and the way the squad is preparing. Last year the team gave us hope to dream bigger, and now it’s time to bring the Durand Cup to Jamshedpur.”
But there’s also a sense of unfinished business. Jamshedpur FC were knocked out in the group stage last time, leaving many fans frustrated. Raj Nandini of Tribes recalled. “We were so disappointed when JFC went out in the group stage last year. This is redemption time for the team and the fans. Last time, we got complacent after scoring two goals and let three in during the second half. It can’t happen again.”
Rani Hembrom, also from Tribes, shared her hopes, “The whole city is gearing up for the Durand Cup, you can feel the excitement everywhere. With Indian football sailing through some rough tides, we hope this tournament in Jamshedpur will really lift the spirits of everyone who loves the game.”
For many, the tournament is more than just matches, it’s a community event that brings people together. Meher Oberoi, a student from St. Mary’s School, captured that feeling, “The Durand Cup being here is so special for us. I know the whole community, students, families, and everyone will be there to support Jamshedpur FC and make it an unforgettable atmosphere.”
As Jamshedpur FC prepares to take the field at home, the city is ready to throw its full weight behind the team, hoping to see them lift one of India’s most historic trophies and bring footballing pride back to the Furnace.
