In a first of a kind initiative in the state if Jharkhand, Jamshedpur FC and Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) in association with Jharkhand Football Association conducted the first ever Grassroots Workshop for women. The workshop will be conducted under the guidance of Mr. Kundan Chandra, Head of Grassroots – Jamshedpur FC and newly appointed Youth Teams coach, Mr. Arshad Hussain and with the all-important assistance of Mr. Kausar Ahmad from TSRDS at Tribal Culture Center in Sonari.

The enthusiastic girls from various regions of Jharkhand will be trained to coach 3 to 12-year-olds in the Jamshedpur FC-TSRDS centers across the Kolhan region.

For the inauguration ceremony, Jamshedpur FC First Team Assistant Coaches Victor Pulga and Steven Dias alongwith new signing Sergio Castel visited to inspire the women coaches in attendance.

Indian Assistant Coach, Steven Dias said, “This is a great initiative. Jamshepur FC has conducted a lot of these workshops and this one being exclusively for women is inspirational. This is a big step to promote women’s football in the state and the country. Glad I could be a part of it from the beginning.”

Assistant Coach Victor Pulga provided some words of motivation to the coaches as he said, “It’s important to love the sport and show passion for the sport if you want to be a good coach. The aim of a grassroots coach is development and not results, and this is what should be the aim of all participants here.”

Sergio Castel, who scored a goal against Real Kashmir the previous day, said, “From a player’s perspective and having played the game for so many years, I know that I have always wanted my coach to focus on my development and then the results. I am where I am as my coaches provided me with the guidance required to be a professional player and I hope the participants of this workshop will strive to achieve the same as a coach.”
