#JFCBFC Match Preview: Final challenge of the ISL Season 2020-21

The Men of Steel came back strong with a full-time score of 2-0 against Mumbai City FC after a tough loss against ATK Mohun Bagan. Jamshedpur took full control of the pitch over the Islanders as they cut down every chance created, hardly letting the visitors take any shot on target throughout the 90 minutes.

It was a special game too as Boris Singh scored his first goal for Jamshedpur FC and in the ISL, just a few minutes after getting subbed in, which took the team to the lead. Then, the Spanish forward, David Grande, added another goal to the tally with a last minute finish into the net which ended all hopes for Mumbai City FC to grab any points from the game. After a dominating performance, Jamshedpur will now march into their final challenge of the season against Bengaluru FC; both sides will play the last game of the season tonight.

Previously, the two sides went head-to-head right before the long break in the month of December 2020. It was an away game for the Men of Steel and they aimed to end their year on a strong note with a win over Bengaluru FC. Both teams seemed determined to grab the victory and walk away with the winning 3 points to progress up the league table before the break. The game kicked-off with fresh energy and enthusiasm with both sides unleashing attacks on each other, but despite the numerous plays towards the goal, none of the chances were converted into the net; the first 45’ came to an end with a goalless scoreboard. The second half witnessed even more intensity as both sides grew restless to take the lead over the other, but no luck came for either side. Just as the game was about to enter its final 10 minutes, Jamshedpur earned the lead over Bengaluru through a freekick set-piece. Aitor Monroy stepped up to take the long freekick; he whipped the ball straight into the mixed crowd of Bengaluru and Jamshedpur, and into the box. Stephen Eze making the most out of the cross, dived to get his head on the ball which deflected off the keeper’s torso as well as Stephen Eze, only to bounce within the goal line again. The linesman raised his flag indicating a goal for Jamshedpur FC and the squad celebrated their late goal over the Blues.

Bengaluru FC did everything in their power to get back in the game with an equaliser in the 10 remaining minutes but they were denied by the strong and compact back line of Jamshedpur FC who successfully blocked away every attempt on target. Jamshedpur managed to maintain their clean sheet as well as walked out victorious with the winning 3 points in hand, moving up on the points table, thus ending year 2020 on a positive note.

Currently, both teams are positioned close to each other on the points table with Jamshedpur at #6 and Bengaluru FC at #7 with a gap of 2 points only. Due to a tough set of results in the second leg of the league, the chances of the two teams to qualify for the playoffs, grew slimmer as the season progressed. With talented domestic players like Sunil Chhetri, Udanta Singh, Gurpreet Singh (Bengaluru FC ) and TP Rehenesh, Farukh Choudhary, Boris Singh, Isaac (Jamshedpur FC) alongside some experienced international players, it will surely be an intense contest of football.

Both Jamshedpur and Bengaluru will be aiming to finish their 2020-21 campaign on a strong foot as they share the pitch at Tilak Maidan tonight one last time.
