#JFCCFC Match Preview: Chennaiyin FC - The first challenge of 2022

After the Men of Steel delivered another power-packed performance against Kerala Blasters to produce a draw with one goal to each side, the squad closed the year with one point which ensured that they stayed in the top 4 before heading into 2022. Now, the squad looks forward to their first game of 2022 against Chennaiyin FC. The two sides have previously faced each other for a total of 8 times in the Hero ISL and will be heading into their 9th fixture tonight.

The first game that they played in the previous season ended with the Marina Machans taking the 3 points with a 2-1 win over Jamshedpur FC, which was also the opening fixture of the 2020-21 season for both teams. After losing in their first meeting, the Men of Steel came back with a win in their second meeting at the end of the season, after scoring a goal in the final minutes of the fixture to earn victory with a slim lead along with the 3 winning points.

This season, the two sides have had very similar results in their 2021-22 campaign of the Hero ISL with multiple draws and wins in the first few games of the season, but Chennaiyin FC have lost 2 games while Jamshedpur FC have only lost one so far. The Men of Steel have been at the top end of the league table since the beginning while the Marina Machans have been going up and down the table considering their mixed results; they are currently placed at the 6th position in the standings. Both sides have been determined to get the winning points in every game they play to stay on top of the standings. “Chennaiyin FC have good players and have a wonderful coach who is somebody who I know well. I know they have high quality players which make them a very good team.  As always, we'll be very respectful to them and we're very aware of the threat that they are. What we have to do is make sure that we are bringing our best game to the pitch because we've shown we can stand toe-to-toe with anybody in this league,” said Owen Coyle ahead of tonight’s fixture. As they play their first game of the year tonight, both teams will be aiming to kick-off 2022 on a positive note by grabbing the 3 points to stay in the race for the top 4 play-offs positions.

Both sides are filled with young talented players, play-finishing strikers, game-changing midfielders and a rock-solid defensive line-up because of which the game between these strong competitors will be an entertaining and an action-packed fixture.
