#JFCCFC Opponent Watch: Analysis of the Marina Machans

Jamshedpur FC closed out the final game of the year 2021 in a draw in their battle against Kerala Blasters and now they are ready to face their next opponent, Chennaiyin FC for their first fixture of the new year, 2022.

While their Hero ISL 2021-22 campaign certainly began on a desirable note since the league kicked-off in November 2021, the squad will now gear up to battle the Marina Machans, and here are some players of the Chennaiyin squad who could be a possible threat on 2nd January 2022:

Vishal Kaith

He had seven clean sheets for FC Pune City, which was tied for the most in the league before signing for Chennaiyin FC ahead of the 2019-20 season; he played a key role in the team's runner-up finish. He has occupied the regular shot stopper position for Chennaiyin FC ever since and has been in ultimate form this season. With a save% of 72% and 90 minutes per goal conceded, Vishal is currently leading the Golden Glove award of the 2021-22 season and will aim to keep himself in the #1 spot in the race with his quick reflexes and ability to get to the corners of the goal to keep the ball out.

Anirudh Thapa

Anirudh made his Hero ISL debut in 2016 with Chennaiyin FC, where he established himself as a regular during their title-winning season of 2017-18. In 2018-19, he was a key player for the Marina Machans, and in 2019-20, he helped them reach the Hero ISL final. After picking up an injury for most of the previous season, Thapa has made his way back into the starting line-up and has managed to score a goal for the team in the first 7 games. The young Indian international is a fast paced midfielder who can threaten the opposition’s defences with his skills, ability to create goal-scoring chances and final passes for his teammates and reliable finishing ability. Anirudh will be a major threat in the midfield as well as the attacking third for the Jamshedpur squad as he will aim to keep his team in the lead and win the game.

Lallianzuala Chhangte

His breakout season came in the 2017-18 season of the league, when he was the only player in the squad to appear in all 18 games for Delhi Dynamos FC. After two seasons with the Dynamos, Chhangte moved to Chennaiyin FC, where he boosted his position in the starting XI by scoring seven goals to become the season's second-highest Indian goalscorer. In the sixth season of the Hero ISL, he had the most ‘shots on target’, assisting Chennaiyin FC to a runner-up finish. Chhangte has lately been in good form with a goal and an assist to his name in the current season; he has been a dominant attacker for the squad, being involved in most of the counter-attacks and goals.

Lukasz Gikiewicz

Lukasz has made a total of 12 appearances in two of the world's most prestigious club competitions, the Europa League and the Champions League. During his time at Slask Wroclaw in Poland, he was instrumental in the club's second league triumph in 2011-12, as well as helping them win the Polish Super Cup the following year. He signed with Chennaiyin FC ahead of the Hero ISL season 2021-22. The Polish forward will be another threat that the Jamshedpur defence would want to keep under their radar as he brings his experience from clubs and leagues all over Europe and Asia, which makes him a very experienced forward and one to keep a close eye on.
