The 500th match of the ISL ended in a splendid manner with Jamshedpur walking out victorious. The team showcased complete control for the whole of 90 mins of the game with the Indian forward, Aniket Jadhav, scoring his first goal of the season and Rehenesh making a stunning penalty save.
Post the second victory of the season, Jamshedpur will now move forward to the next challenge i.e. battling FC Goa at Tilak Maidan for their 8th fixture. In the previous seasons of ISL, both teams have faced each other 6 times till now. Interestingly, the Red Miners and the Gaurs have always delivered entertaining and memorable games of football for their fans; out of the 6 games they have played with each other, only 1 of them has ended in a goalless draw.
Both teams met for the first time in the 2017-18 season of the ISL in which FC Goa took the win lead over Jamshedpur; Goa won both the fixtures scheduled in that season. The first game ever played between the two ended with 2 goals for the Gaurs and 1 for Jamshedpur. Even the second match saw FC Goa walking out victorious with 3 goals to nil over Jamshedpur.
However, Jamshedpur made a strong comeback as they won their 3rd face-off with a powerful performance defeating the Gaurs with the final score of 4-1. They kept the same pace for the next fixtures as well and the Red Miners finally equalised the win record with another victory over FC Goa last season. However, the last fixture between the two teams ended with a big victory against the Red Miners; FC Goa won the game with 5 goals while denying Jamshedpur any chance to score.
Currently, Jamshedpur FC have moved up to the 5th position after their win against NorthEast United FC while FC Goa are placed on the 7th position in the league table after losing two consecutive matches. Keeping the current standings in mind, both teams will set their focus on grabbing the 3 points to proceed up the league table to the top 4 to qualify for the play-offs.
Two of the best strikers in the league, Valskis (Jamshedpur FC) and Igor Angulo (FC Goa), with 6 goals each in the season so far, will be coming face-to-face in tonight’s fixture, looking to claim the #1 spot in the ‘Most goals scored by a player’ standings. Both teams have strong tactical midfielders like Aitor Monroy, Alex Lima, Jackichand Singh in Jamshedpur and Brandon Fernandes, Edu Bedia, Alberto Noguera and many more in the Goan squad. While they also possess a strong set of players in the field upwards, the teams also harbour a concrete line of defence along with quick goalkeepers as well. So, undoubtedly, it will be an action-packed contest tonight at the Tilak Maidan stadium.
The current fixture record for the two teams are as follows:
Jamshedpur FC | FC Goa
2 Wins 3
1 Draws 1
6 Goals 11
