#JFCMCFC Match Preview: An electrifying clash awaits against Mumbai City FC

Yet another setback was suffered by the Men of Steel as they faced a defeat at the hands of ATK Mohun Bagan. The defending champions grabbed the 3 points with a late goal in the last 5 minutes of the game. Roy Krishna, who is the player with most goals currently, netted in their winning goal to secure a victory thus pushing them to the #1 position in the league table.

Moving on, Jamshedpur will now gear up for their next challenge against Mumbai City FC.

The Men of Steel will be facing the Islanders for the second time this season after their first clash in December 2020. The battle will take place at the Tilak Maidan stadium as Jamshedpur play their 19th game of the season while Mumbai City FC, with an extra game at hand, will play their 18th game of their campaign.

Previously, both teams shared the pitch at the GMC Stadium Bambolim as it was an away game for Jamshedpur after their win over NorthEast United FC. The Men of Steel were on their unbeaten run when they faced Mumbai City FC last time. The game was a nail-biting one as it kicked-off with Valskis scoring the opening goal in the first 10 minutes of the fixture. Mumbai too did not waste much time to get back in the game with an equalising goal by Ogbeche just minutes after conceding the goal.

15 minutes into the game and the two sides were already going at each other in full swing, trying to take the lead over the other. Then, the Men of Steel suffered a setback in the first half with Aitor Monroy being sent off after getting punished with a second yellow card, bringing down the visitors to 10 men on the pitch. This decision by the referee put the Islanders at an advantage over Jamshedpur and they came up with numerous attacks from both flanks and down the middle with an extra man on their side. Despite being at a disadvantage, the Men of Steel showcased a strong defensive performance and managed to keep the score at 1-1 for almost 90 minutes. Again, they almost netted another goal which could have put them in the lead to win the game but the linesman disallowed it, ruling it as an offside. And that’s how the battle came to an end with the two sides sharing a point each.

Fast forward to tonight, the teams will come face to face at Tilak Maidan with Jamshedpur FC playing yet another home game. ATK Mohun Bagan’s two consecutive wins in the previous 2 games and Mumbai City’s loss to Bengaluru FC in their previous fixture, led the defending champions to take the lead over the Islanders in the league standings so, this time the stakes will be higher as Mumbai City FC will look to grab the 3 points to regain the #1 spot. On the other hand, Jamshedpur would want to accumulate as many points as possible from the two remaining fixtures to compete for the playoffs position, by starting with a win tonight.

Both sides possess some of the most experienced foreign players like Adam Le Fondre, Ahmed Jahouh, Bartholomew Ogbeche (Mumbai City FC) and Alex Lima, Stephen Eze, Peter Hartley, Nerijus Valskis (Jamshedpur FC). With such performers sharing one pitch, it will undoubtedly be a firecracker of a match. Interestingly, tonight’s game will also be a milestone of the league as it will be the 100th fixture of the 2020-21 season of the ISL thus making it making it a heavily anticipated match for the fans across the country as well.
