Match Report: Jamshedpur FC lose to Bengaluru FC at the Kanteerava Stadium

Jamshedpur FC held an advantage over Bengaluru FC before this encounter. They had never lost a match at the Kanteerava stadium in the ISL in the previous seasons. It was the perfect game for them to make a comeback and be in contention for the play-offs.

The home team started the match on a solid note with Ashique Kuruniyan making a run down the right and forced a save out of Subrata. At the 8th minute, Bengaluru FC took the lead through a set piece. Dimas Delgado put in a delightful ball from the corner spot at the centre of the box and Erik Paartalu beat his marker and rose above Narender to head in the first goal of the match and put the home team ahead. In the first 25 minutes of the game, though Jamshedpur FC had more possession it was Bengaluru FC who were dominating the game.

The first real chance came in the 38th minute for Jamshedpur FC when David Grande put in an early cross from the right to Farukh Choudhary. He collected the ball outside the box, took a touch and fired it towards goal but Ashique Kuruniyan put in a block to deny him. At the half-time the score was 1-0.

The second half began with Jamshedpur FC making a substitution with Bikash Jairu coming in for Jitendra Singh. It was the home team again who were setting the pace of the game. Against the run of play, Aitor Monroy got the ball outside the box, took a touch and then shot it towards goal. It looked to be heading straight into the left corner but Gurpreet Singh Sandhu dived and made a one-handed save.

Bengaluru FC made another defensive error as Dimas Delgado’s back pass put Gourav Mukhi through on goal but was denied by a crucial tackle by Juanan. But it was Jamshedpur FC’s defensive mistake which sealed the victory for Bengaluru FC. Erik Paartalu played a long ball from his own half, Sunil Chhetri smartly ran behind Narender Gahlot and put the ball into the back of the net. Jamshedpur FC had the opportunity to reduce the deficit when Erik Paartalu failed to clear the long ball from Aitor Monroy and David Grande was through on goal. He fired a shot but Gurpreet Singh Sandhu stretched his hand to save it and keep the score to 2-0.
