Jamshedpur FC 3 (Mohammed Sanan 53’, Javi Siverio 61’, Stephen Eze 79’) bt Mohammedan SC (Mohammed Irshad 88’)
Jamshedpur, December 2: Jamshedpur FC showcased a resounding return to form with a commanding 3-1 victory over Mohammedan SC, with Mohammed Sanan's sensational goal and Albino Gomes' late penalty save stealing the headlines at the Furnace. A relentless display of attacking football ensured the Men of Steel secured all three points in the encounter.
The first half was a tale of missed opportunities for Jamshedpur. Mohammed Sanan and Javi Hernández both tested the Mohammedan goalkeeper with powerful shots from outside the box, while Stephen Eze came agonisingly close with a flicked effort from a corner that grazed the crossbar. Despite their dominance, the sides went into the break locked at 0-0.
The deadlock was broken in spectacular fashion in the 54th minute. Mohammed Sanan dribbled past his marker on the left side of the box and unleashed a screamer into the top right corner, leaving the Mohammedan goalkeeper with no chance.
Jamshedpur doubled their lead in the 61st minute when Javi Siverio capitalised on a defensive error during a corner, calmly tapping in a loose ball from close range. Stephen Eze made it 3-0 in the 79th minute, bundling home another corner with a composed finish, assisted by Shubham Sarangi.
Mohammedan pulled one back in the 88th minute through Mohammed Irshad, who headed in a pinpoint cross from Zodingliana Ralte following a set piece. However, their hopes of a comeback were extinguished in stoppage time.
However, the drama didn’t end there as the referee awarded Mohammedan a penalty in injury time, offering them a lifeline. Carlos França Freires stepped up to take the spot-kick, aiming a low shot to the bottom left corner. Albino Gomes, however, was equal to the task, diving brilliantly to make a spectacular save and preserve Jamshedpur's two-goal cushion.
With the result Jamshedpur FC climbed to seventh place with 15 points in 9 matches. Jamshedpur FC face Punjab FC in their next match at JRD Tata Sports Complex on December 13.
