Sarthak Golui: Happy to score, but Jamshedpur FC deserved more

Jamshedpur, April 12: Sarthak Golui struck a dramatic last-minute equaliser to rescue a point for Jamshedpur FC against Mumbai City FC, but the defender admitted that the result still felt like an opportunity missed after a dominant display at the Furnace.

“I’m happy that I could score and help the team, but honestly, we could have won the match,” Sarthak said after the game. “We created so many chances and controlled most of the play. It’s a bit frustrating, but at least we showed character till the end.”

The defender’s towering header in the 90th minute capped off a relentless performance from the Men of Steel, who kept pushing despite falling behind just before half-time through a deflected goal. Throughout the second half, Jamshedpur poured forward in waves, with Mumbai’s defence and goalkeeper repeatedly called into action.

For Sarthak, the goal was about staying ready in the moment. “When the corner came in, I just focused on timing my run well and making good contact. We were putting them under pressure, and I believed one chance would fall for us,” he said.

The strike also marked another important milestone in his growing journey with the club. Having scored on his debut in the Durand Cup against Tribhuvan Army, Sarthak has now delivered in another crucial situation. “That first goal gave me confidence, and moments like this push you to keep improving and contributing to the team,” he added.

Jamshedpur FC’s season so far has been built on resilience, with the team repeatedly finding ways to respond under pressure. Sarthak believes that mentality is becoming a defining trait. “We never think the game is over. Even when we are behind, we keep fighting. That belief in the team is very strong, and it showed again today,” he said.

With the title race tightening and every point proving vital, the focus now quickly shifts to the upcoming fixtures. “Now every game is very important for us. We have to take this momentum, keep working hard, and try to convert these performances into wins,” Sarthak said.
