“We have to rectify our mistakes and get back to working hard” - Owen Coyle post #JFCNEU.

Coach Owen Coyle talks about the individual errors made in the second leg of the season and what he plans to do in order to move forward from it. Owen Coyle also believes that the team needs to rectify the mistakes made in the game and make the most out of the chances created.

Here are the excerpts from the interview:

On what is going wrong with the team’s performance

We have been playing the same as we did previously, but we have been making some terrible individual errors and that has led us to concede goals. We gave the opposition a head-start with the first goal which was easily avoidable and then we took charge in the second half as we were pushing forward and had chances to score, but we made a terrible error with the substitute giving away the ball. We had tons of chances to score after the error but we failed to convert. On one end, we are making individual errors costing us goals while at the other end, we are not scoring with the chances we are receiving. But, we did have a lot of opportunities to score tonight.

On the men not playing collectively as a team

No, the bottomline is there were individual errors made. In terms of losing a game, it's always easy for people to say the team was sloppy in their play, but if you actually look at the game in the second half, we probably deserved to get something out of it. So, I think we have to be fair and give balance to the game and play as well as we can, but we have to do more to get some good results from it. I do not recall NorthEast creating much chances in the second half and it was the one opportunity that they got from which they scored. At the same time, with the chances we had, Valksis had a chance and so did Narender in the final moments of the match. Yeah, it is frustrating as well when 2 minutes out of the 6 minute extra time is wasted and still the referee blows the whistle at exactly 6 minutes. So, that is something that needs to be whipped out for every team. When people are going down injured in the extra time and take up 2 minutes to get back up and the referee still does not add on to the extra time, then it is a form of cheating.

On the team conceding 8 goals in the last 3 games

We need to go back to doing what we were doing before which is keeping clean sheets. Obviously, Dinliana is injured which is a huge blow to our squad as he certainly gives a lot of balance to the team, but we just need to work hard in the training sessions and keep those clean sheets to pick ourselves back up again. So, it is a poor start to the second leg of the league, but we just need to pick ourselves up and get going again. It does not make us feel good to have lost those games but we will look to rectify those mistakes and get back to working hard. There are a lot of points left to earn and a lot of games we have to play ahead and we need to be ready to win those matches.

On needing more from the forwards after failing to convert in the second half

Well, we need to take our chances to score and that is very clear. Valskis should have been the first to score tonight with a wonderful opportunity in the first half but it was saved by the keeper. We would have been in front in the game and the margins in this league have been so fine and in the last 2 games we have come out on the wrong side of those margins. So, we need to get back to working hard and pick ourselves up to get ready for the next game. There is no other answer to it.

On the team lacking the aggression they possessed in the first half of the league

No, what we have done wrong is we have started to make many errors in the games. We have made errors which we have been punished for and of course we are working to eradicate those mistakes. It is about focus and concentration of the players and we have to avoid making the same mistakes. The second goal was avoidable and we were the team incharge in the second half, but we made a considerable error which helped the centre-forward, Brown, score right through the goalkeeper. So, those individual errors need to be corrected and if we manage to do that, it will result in us scoring more goals and winning games. But, we also have to be clinical as well when we are creating the chances to score.

On the team needing a better plan moving forward

Well, as I said, we just need to stop making mistakes and make the best out of the chances we receive.

On Jamshedpur considering to make moves in the January transfer window

We might have ample players to play in the squad, but we do not have all of them available at the moment to play the main games. Of course, we are interested in making transfers but I am not aware of any player who will get signed by the club yet.
