Wonderboy Isaac ensures a point

Talk of the town, Isaac Vanmalsawma caught up with us for a quick chat after last night’s draw against Chennaiyin FC. Coming off the bench in the second half, Isaac diminished the opposition’s lead just at the brink of full-time. Fancy footwork from Aniket Jadhav cut past a couple of white shirts in seconds, found Sumeet Passi, whose crisp pass located Vanmalsawma in an open space, right at the edge of the box. Isaac took no time in taking a shot on goal, and confirming a point out of the fixture for Jamshedpur FC.

The Furnace erupted in joy when the ball embraced the net and the digital scoreboard near the North stand confirmed the home side had equalised and saved the day. The 23-year-old midfielder not only ensured his team a point against the Marina Machans, but also kept their winning run at home, untarnished as the 2019-20 edition of the Indian Super League unfolds.

Scoring his first goal for Jamshedpur FC, that too against his former team, Isaac said, It was a great feeling to score my first goal for Jamshedpur FC. I just never thought it would come against my former team, I didn't expect that at all, but it is a great feeling to score to be honest, and to help my team to get an important point. I hope this will help us in the upcoming matches in the rest of the season.”

Super sub of the night, Isaac, believes it is a player’s job to help the team and finish the task assigned to them by their coach. The Mizo-born believes, As a player, that’s (scoring) our job. We always have to be ready even if we are on the bench. Coming on as a substitute, it is what is required from us, to help the team and turn things around. When the coach makes a change, he trusts you to help the team and we always need to be ready to give our best on the pitch, at any given point in the match.”

Speaking about the team’s overall performance and areas of improvement against the two-time ISL champions, Isaac hailed his side on doing well in spite of having a couple of big names out injured. “At the moment, the team has done well. We had two important players out on injury, Sergio (Castel) and Piti, but we still managed to get a point, and that is certainly a positive. Going forward, we will give our best and try to improve as a team in the upcoming matches,” he said.
