Guwahati, May 5: A dramatic 90th-minute penalty conversion by Lawmsangzuala helped 10-man Jamshedpur FC U-17 edge past Corbett FC 1-0 in AIFF U-17 Elite League Final Round Group ‘D’ clash at SAI Ground, Guwahati on Monday.
The match looked destined for a stalemate until forward Krishna Tudu was brought down in a one-on-one situation by Corbett FC goalkeeper Kunal in the final minute of regulation time. Zuala, showing nerves of steel, stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the net, sealing a crucial win for the Young Men of Steel.
Jamshedpur FC were reduced to ten men in the 67th minute after defender Soumik Das received his second yellow card, leaving the side to battle the final stretch a man short. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the team remained was able to eke out victory and win crucial three points.
With this hard-fought victory, Jamshedpur FC now top Group D with four points from two games. They had earlier drawn 1-1 with Classic Football Academy in their opening fixture. Muthoot Football Academy, who also have four points, are second due to goal difference.
The group decider between Jamshedpur FC and Muthoot FA on May 7 will be a high-stakes encounter, where a draw would be enough for both teams to secure quarterfinal berths.
Classic Football Academy and Corbett FC have one point each after completion of two matches in the Group.
